In spring, 2009, I got acquainted with Christie, a transvestite who introduced me into the world of transvestites in Amsterdam. He took me with him to the Beauty Contest for transvestites, told me about dragshowbar «Lellebel», introduced to his friends, invited me to parties and concerts. Often transvestites would turn out to be so-called common people - five days a week they have a «decent» job; the rest of the time many of them perform on stage. Even in the Netherlands, a country famous for its tolerance, they don't always dare to tell their relatives about their way of life and they don't always use public transport when fully attired.
Some of the photographs where taken during Amsterdam GayPride 2009. During the GayPride police handed out postcards and badges that read – «if you are discriminated because you are gay, call the police, if you want to talk with a gay-policeman, call special line…».
Moscow GayPride 2009 was wiped away by the police.
